AtLast.NZ Accounts From Arise Software
Coming soon

A small set of books that does the boring part for you.

AtLast.NZ is accounting software for one New Zealand company, in New Zealand dollars, built around a proper double-entry ledger. Bank reconciliation, invoicing, customer statements, the reports your accountant asks for, and a monthly GST return — and nothing else.

It isn't open for sign-ups yet. It is being run in parallel against a real set of books first, because the only honest way to find out whether a ledger is right is to make it agree with one that already is.

What it covers

Everything a one-company set of books actually needs.

Everything below is a view over the same journal. An invoice is a journal, coding a bank line is a journal, your accountant's year-end adjustment is a journal — so the reports can never quietly disagree with the ledger they came from.

Chart of accounts

Bring yours across as it stands, codes and all. No re-typing, and no invented account structure you then have to live with.

Bank import and reconciling

Import a statement, and the lines that can be worked out already are. Money in gets matched to the invoice it settles; money out gets coded, by rules you make as you go.

Invoicing, including recurring

Raise one, or set the monthly ones up once and let them raise themselves. Macrons render properly, on screen and on the page you send.

Customer statements

Every invoice still owing, with the ageing spelled out. Print it or save it as a PDF from your browser — no font surprises in somebody's name.

The reports that matter

Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance and aged receivables — each one a query over the ledger, and each one able to show you the lines behind any figure.

Monthly GST, payments basis

Each month's return worked out for you, with every transaction behind every box listed. Once a period is filed it is locked, and it stops moving.

A look at it

What it looks like to use.

Screens from the working software. The company, the customers and every figure below are invented for this page — nobody's real books are shown here.

Open it, and it tells you what needs you

Not a wall of charts. What you are owed, what is actually in the bank once the statement is reconciled, and the short list of things nobody else is going to do.

Reconciling, where most of the time goes

A receipt that quotes an invoice number is matched to it. So is one that doesn't, when the payer's wording is already known, or when a few open invoices add up to exactly what arrived. Spending gets coded by the rules you build as you go, and the GST is split out of the bank amount as it posts.

Invoices, and the monthly ones that raise themselves

Every invoice carries its own status — what's still open, what's part paid, what's late and by how long. Set a recurring one up once and it goes out on its own schedule, in the customer's name, macrons and all.

The GST return, worked out and shown to you

Each month on a payments basis, with every transaction behind every box there to open. AtLast.NZ can't file to IRD for you — that needs accreditation it doesn't have — so what it gives you is the set of figures to key into myIR, and a record of exactly how each one was arrived at. Once you mark a period filed, it locks.

Reports your accountant can work from

Profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance and aged receivables, over any dates you like. Your accountant gets their own sign-in to post year-end journals — and everything either of you does is written to a log that can't be edited afterwards.

Just as important

What it deliberately doesn't do.

Most accounting software is big because it has to be everything to everybody. This one only has to be right for one company, so the list below was left out on purpose — and leaving it out is what keeps the rest simple enough to trust.

Bills and accounts payable — spending is coded straight off the bank Quotes Multi-currency — New Zealand dollars only Payroll Inventory Multiple companies — one set of books An app store Filing to IRD directly — figures to key into myIR

Not open yet — but you can ask.

It's being proven against a real set of books first: every figure has to agree with accounts that are already right before anyone else is invited in. If you'd like to know when that's done, say so and you'll be told.
